About ANZ Championship
In 2008 netball in Australia and New Zealand took a huge leap forward with the introduction of the ANZ Championship competition.
Ten teams (five from New Zealand and five from Australia) were formed to create the ANZ Championship which took the sport to a new level as semi-professional.
In the competition a total of 69 games are played over 17 weeks beginning with a 14-week round robin competition.
Each team plays 13 games, including at least six home games during these rounds.
Each Australian team will play each of the Australian teams twice, and the New Zealand teams once.
Each New Zealand team will play the other New Zealand teams twice, and each of the Australian teams once.
The competition, now in its third year, is owned by Trans-Tasman Netball League Ltd (TTNL), a joint venture of Netball Australia and Netball New Zealand.
Netball has the highest participation rate of any women’s sport in both countries.
Australia and New Zealand have dominated the international history of netball, between them winning every World Championship title since 1963.
The ANZ Championship is the first semi-professional netball competition in Australasia.
