The Mission Queensland Firebirds will take on the Reds in a beach volleyball battle

GET ready for a battle that is set to rival the ANZ Championship Grand Final for excitement and suspense!

The Mission Queensland Firebirds will go head to head with the Queensland Reds in a beach volleyball friendly to raise funds for life-saving gynaecological cancer research.

And you can be part of the battle against ovarian cancer by registering a team of five friends or colleagues to compete in a beach volleyball tournament on Sunday, January 29.

Teams will also have the chance to play with or against their favourite Firebirds or Reds heroes.

The family-friendly event will feature an array of activities including a kids zone, beach activities and much more. Plus there will be a chance to meet your favourite sporting stars!

Firebirds who are attending the event include Romelda Aiken, Amy Steel, Elissa Macleod, Chelsea Pitman, Ameliaranne Wells and new Firebird Jacinta Messer.

Every day in Australia, 12 women - mothers, wives and daughters - will be diagnosed with a life shattering gynaecological cancer and four of these women will eventually lose their battle while the incidence of these cancers grow rapidly.

Mission Queensland Firebird Romelda Aiken said she was proud to be part of the event and was looking forward to going up against the members of the Reds.

“It will be interesting to see how we all go in the beach volleyball match as it’s not something we all play regularly,” she said.

“But it’s anyone’s game to win, but at the end of the day the real winner is the Queensland Centre for Gynaecological Cancer Research who through the funds raised can help give every woman in Queensland the best chance of surviving gynaecological cancer.”
