FOR Chelsea Pitman, her 2011 pre-season was spent recovering from a knee reconstruction and not 100 per cent injury free.

But 2012 is a different story with the centre-court player saying this is the first pre-season in a long time she is starting injury free.

“I am extremely excited to be able to work hard throughout our whole pre-season with the girls and see the results come our first game on April 1st,” she said.

Although the 5.45am starts are a killer, especially when backed up with a court session at night, Chelsea is still happy to be back on court with the Mission Queensland Firebirds as they prepare for another historic season.

As the season fast approaches, Chelsea said her favourite team to go up against is the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic.

“They are definitely the most consistent and toughest Kiwi teams out of the five,” she said.

“They play such an exciting, different style of netball that with our style of play, always turns out to be a great match.”

On the other hand it’s West Coast Fever that are her least favourite team due to their playing style that sees them beat anyone on a good day and then have a completely different result the following week.

“You always have to be prepared to fight for everything the whole 60 minutes and be prepared the best you can for everything they throw at you,” she said of the Fever.

Heading into the ANZ Championship as the undefeated premiers, the Mission Queensland Firebirds know they will have a target on their back, but the team is up for the challenge and are ready to fight to defend their title.
