THE rain did nothing to dampen the spirits of 100 eager young netballers who braved the elements to meet their favourite Mission Queensland Firebirds at the ANZ Fire Up! Clinic on Wednesday.

Firebirds Laura Geitz, Romelda Aiken, Clare McMeniman, Laura Scherian and Jacqui Russell along with Missie, the Mission Queensland Firebird were on hand to teach the young athletes some netball skills.

Rotating through various drills, the young netballers received training tips and learnt match play skills from the country’s best netballers in the two-hour clinic held at the MacGregor Netball Association.

And after working hard on the court, they had the chance to win some great prizes and ask the Firebirds some questions, as well as getting autographs.

Netball Queensland Participation Coordinator Ann-Marie Geary said the weather did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of the young netballers at the clinic and the day was a great success.

“All the young netballers had a fantastic day learning some skills and getting some tips from their favourite Mission Queensland Firebirds,” Ms Geary said.

“The ANZ Fire Up! Clinic provides a chance for young netballers to hone their skills, while at the same time having fun with their friends.”

Ms Geary said she hopes the young netballers at Caloundra can match the enthusiasm of the Brisbane netballers when the Firebirds travel to the Sunshine Coast for another ANZ Fire Up! Clinic next week.
