Mission Queensland Firebird Laura Geitz

MISSION Queensland Firebirds champion defender Laura Geitz has been awarded the prestigious Mission Queensland Firebirds Player of the Year.

Geitz was announced the 2010 Mission Queensland Firebirds Player of the Year at the Mission Queensland Firebirds Celebration Dinner held at The Gabba on Friday, July 16.

For the third year running, Clare McMeniman has been recognised by her peers and has been awarded the Mission Queensland Firebirds Player’s Player Award.

Meanwhile Keirra Trompf’s energy on and off the court has earned her the Mission Queensland Firebirds Spirit Award.

This is not the first time Trompf has been recognised for her spirit, she received the same award in 2008.

The Celebration Dinner was an intimate gathering for the Mission Queensland Firebirds family, friends, sponsors and supporters offering a time to reflect on the 2010 Season and look forward to what next season will bring.

Other members of the Mission Queensland Firebirds were recognised throughout the evening for reaching significant milestones throughout the 2010 season.

These included Natalie Medhurst (100 CBT and ANZ Championship caps), Lauren Nourse (100 CBT and ANZ Championship caps), Clare McMeniman (50 Firebirds caps), Jacqui Russell (Firebirds Debut) and Laura Scherian (Firebirds Debut).

The Mission Queensland Firebirds Player of the Year and Spirit Award are both voted for by the coaching and management staff while the Mission Queensland Firebirds Player’s Player Award is voted by the Firebirds themselves based on on-court performance and leadership skills on and off the court.
