Laura Scherian being presented with a debutante plaque by Netball Queensland CEO Cameron O'Hara
AFTER a season of being mentored by the more senior members of the Mission Queensland Firebirds, the tables have now turned with three of the younger members of the team turning into mentors themselves.
Laura Scherian, Jacqui Russell and Sophie Croft have all been named in the 2010 Queensland Fusion team and will help mentor young up and coming netballers.
Laura Scherian talks about her selection in the team for 2010
How does it feel to make the Queensland Fusion team for 2010?
It exciting, trainings have already started and it’s a great group to be a part of.
I have been in state teams or other squads with majority of the team and support staff and am looking forward to working with them all again!
Last year you played for AIS, will it be different playing for Queensland Fusion in 2010?
Yes, every team is different but it is great to get back in the maroon and represent Queensland again.
The majority of the girls in the Fusion squad this year have worked together at some stage throughout their development so there are some combinations already built as well as Sophie Jac and I working at the AIS last year and this year with the Mission Queensland Firebirds together.
You have been training with the Mission Queensland Firebirds this year, getting some court time, do you think this will help you in the Queensland Fusion this year?
I hope that the experience Soph, Jac and myself have from being a part of the Mission Queensland Firebirds this year and getting to train and play with such a high calibre of players such as Lauren Nourse, Nat Medhurst, Laura Geitz and Clare Mcmeniman will have a positive impact on our performance and developed and matured us as players.
Will you be able to share your experience in the ANZ Championship with your team mates?
I was lucky enough to get some court time towards the end of the ANZ season which was a fantastic opportunity for me and I hope the experience will assist me with my and the team’s performance in ANL this year.
