Mission Queensland Firebird Sophie Croft

AFTER a season of being mentored by the more senior members of the Mission Queensland Firebirds, the tables have now turned with three of the younger members of the team turning into mentors themselves.

Laura Scherian, Jacqui Russell and Sophie Croft have all been named in the 2010 Queensland Fusion team and will help mentor young up and coming netballers.

Sophie Croft talks about her selection in the team for 2010.

How does it feel to make the Queensland Fusion team for 2010?

It's exciting making the ANL team. It will be great to finally get out on court and put into practice everything I've been working on throughout the year at the Mission Queensland Firebirds training and now ANL.

I've also played with most of these girls over the last couple of the years through underage state and state league teams, and it's always fun to play with them.

Last year you played for AIS, will it be different playing for Queensland Fusion in 2010?

Playing for the AIS last year was a great experience, but there's nothing like playing for Queensland, where I've lived all my life, and stepping out in that maroon uniform.

You have been training with the Mission Queensland Firebirds this year, do you think this will help you in the Queensland Fusion this year?

Whilst I didn't get on court in the ANZ Championship this year I think having the opportunity to train everyday with the likes of Nat (Medhurst), Lauren (Nourse), Clare (McMeniman), Geitzy (Laura Geitz) and all of the other Firebirds girls has been invaluable.

They have a very strong work ethic and that is something that I would love to take with me back to ANL.
