Mission Queensland Firebird Jacqui Russell
AFTER a season of being mentored by the more senior members of the Mission Queensland Firebirds, the tables have now turned with three of the younger members of the team turning into mentors themselves.
Laura Scherian, Jacqui Russell and Sophie Croft have all been named in the 2010 Queensland Fusion team and will help mentor young up and coming netballers.
Jacqui Russell talks about her selection in the team for 2010
How does it feel to make the squad for 2010?
I'm really looking forward to ANL this year and I can't wait to get out on court and start playing!
Last year you played for AIS, will it be different playing for Fusion in 2010?
It was great being down at the AIS last year but it was definitely an odd feeling playing against my own state.
Also, this is the first year I've been too old to play at Nationals so I haven't had much of a chance to play for Queensland this year so I'm very happy to be a part of this ANL side.
You have been training with the Firebirds this year with some of you getting court time, do you think this will help you this year?
Training and playing in an ANZ team was a big step up and I think Sophie, Laura and I will be able to use the experience we gained to help make our ANL team very competitive this year.
Queensland has done really well in ANL in the past, coming third for the last two years, so hopefully this year we can make it to the grand final and come home with a win!
Will you be able to share your experience in the ANZ Champs with your team mates?
Being with the Firebirds this year has raised my expectations of the effort and intensity needed by myself and my team mates.
Hopefully this attitude will show at ANL and help us all get the best out of ourselves during the season.
