Laura Geitz and Romelda Aiken in the Holden Test Series
MISSION Queensland Firebirds Laura Geitz, Natalie Medhurst, Lauren Nourse and Amy Steel all took the court in the Australian Netball Diamonds final game against Jamaican Sunshine Girls in the Holden Test Series.
The two Firebird defenders Geitz and Steel made it hard for fellow Firebird and Sunshine Girl Romelda Aiken in the circle, but at the other end of the court, Aiken’s sister Nicole was putting the pressure on Medhurst and the other Diamonds shooters.
In front of a strong crowd at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre, the Firebirds shone as Diamonds as they gave their all in a hope to secure a place in the team that will travel to Delhi for the Commonwealth Games.
Medhurst took the court for the first half and shot at 100 per cent helping to secure the Diamonds 71-40 victory against the Sunshine Girls.
All 12 players took the court in the game, which Mo’onia Gerrard was named Holden Player of the Match.
The Diamonds will have just over a week off before they fly to Adelaide to take on the New Zealand Silver Ferns on Sunday, August 29.
