Defender Bakewell-Doran is one of the rising stars of Australian netball, backing up her remarkable debut campaign with further gains in 2023.

An ever-present in her second season as a fulltime contracted player, Bakewell-Doran claimed 30 intercepts – the fourth-highest tally in the league – as well as 52 deflections, 19 rebounds and 62 gains in her 14 matches.

Her efforts were rewarded with the Laura Geitz Medal and Members' Player of the Year prizes as well as being named as a reserve player for Australia’s successful World Cup campaign in South Africa.

Bakewell-Doran brings confidence and maturity to the court and has overcome various injury setbacks, including an ACL injury in her teens, to establish herself as a key player in the Firebirds' lineup with her importance reflected in the awarding of a three-year contract at the end of 2023.

Away from the court Ruby works as a content specialist and is a keen home renovator.
